Teenage anxiety, teen depression and teen stress are becoming more familiar in our society. The rapid increase in these conditions is due to a number of factors which are part of our society. Social media, increased academic expectations, global responsibilities, social responsibilities, physical expectations and social awareness are all possible factors to be considered. Whatever the reasons it is essential to try and help these young people to balance their expectations, prioritise worthwhile pursuits and come to their own educated decisions about what is right for them.
It is tragic that so many of these young people suffer in silence and simply don’t know where to go for help. It is bewildering, frightening and disabling to experience anxiety which can lead to panic attacks, eating disorders, immune disorders, and an overwhelming feeling of isolation and loneliness. It feels like everyone else is having a better time, more fun, more friends, is prettier, more fashionable, has a better body etc etc…..social media encourages competition and can increase feelings of envy and jealousy leaving you feeling inadequate.
The Thrive Programme for Teenagers encourages self management and demonstrates that you can have an impact on your experiences and moods. It shows how you can manage your self belief in a more positive way, manage your thinking styles and regain the ” I Can ” attitude of a younger child! In addition it shows you how to focus on what you want to happen rather than what you fear might happen.
The 1:1 sessions are built around you and the Thrive for Teenagers Manual is studied between sessions with some helpful and instructive quizzes and exercises. Any questions that you may have are encouraged and listened to with sympathy and openness. There is no right or wrong in this Programme, “you” are learning about “you”, no marks, no judging and no comparisons. The intention is for you to come away with your own set of instructions to manage yourself in the best way possible to make you happy, excited and to Thrive in life. It is a chance to re boot yourself so that you are prepared and ready for the next stage in your life.
Testimonial – Girl, age 17
“A few years ago I was suffering from anorexia as I started my new school. I began getting worked up and stressed and this affected my work and social life. I started isolating myself and began to struggle even with simple things such as seeing friends. I recovered in the short run but I found myself falling back into old ways and going downhill again. My mum suggested that I gave Thrive a go and I couldn’t be more grateful to Bim and the Thrive Programme for helping get me back on track.
“At first I was very unsure as I couldn’t see how this would help and I didn’t think that anything could get me out of where I was as I had previously tried other options. However, even after the first session I found I was able to focus my mind on something positive, I changed my view on life and realised that I have control. Thrive has shown me that I have all the tools to overcome any obstacle that life throws at me, I just needed to find them.
“Even now I have finished the course I feel myself thriving daily. Thrive let me see the light at the end of the tunnel and now, a couple of months after finishing the programme I have never felt more in control, even with exams coming up. I am able to cope with the stress better than I ever was before and I am enjoying school properly for the first time in a while. Of course I have my moments, as anyone would, but between the Thrive Programme and Bim’s guidance and encouragement I have learnt how to deal with them.”

HOW LONG AND HOW MUCH.
Everyone learns at their own pace but as a guideline this training programme can generally be delivered in 6 x 80 minute sessions depending on external factors and commitments of the trainee. The course is tailored to suit you, so you set the pace.
It is necessary to have some time between appointments to digest the information and practise new skills. There may be some helpful light homework to run through between appointments.
It can be delivered via Skype or at the Woodside Clinic (which is 37A Hermitage Road, Hitchin. SG5 1BY). But ideally a face to face meeting is beneficial.
I offer a free initial consultation enabling both parties to discuss the suitability of the programme and to explain more about the programme.
